When it comes to traffic on one of America’s biggest highways, Austin is a major drag. Of all the 1,565 miles of I-35 between Mexico and Minnesota, the couple through downtown Austin is often the most fraught with brake lights.
It’s nothing new. Officials have debated lowering and building overtop of I-35 for nearly two decades, but the subject is finally getting serious attention now.
The ambitious plan, often referred to as cut and cap because the road would be cut down to sub-surface levels and then be covered, has the potential to alleviate congestion on I-35.
